Why eye creams won’t remove your undereye bags

eye creamsI know you don’t want surgery but when it comes to undereye bags, eye creams aren’t gonna do it! Of course you’re thinking that it’s no surprise a plastic surgeon is encouraging you to get surgery but when you understand what causes undereye bags, you’ll see why eye creams won’t do the trick.

Undereye bags are caused by pockets of fat beneath the skin and muscle of the lower lid. Because the fat is two layers deep, no amount of eye cream is gonna get down there. Eye creams can moisturize and reduce the appearance of fine lines on the surface of the skin, but they don’t penetrate to do anything to the fat. In fact, there’s no ingredients in eye creams that dissolve fat.

So when you look at it from this perspective, there’s no way an eye cream can do what surgery can easily do. Again, I recognize no one wants surgery but when you understand how relatively easy lower eyelid surgery to remove undereye bags can be, you may not be so scared.

The procedure to remove undereye bags can be done under local or “twilight” sedation (similar to the sedation associated with a colonoscopy). You don’t even have to have an incision on the skin of the lower eyelids. The incision is made on the inside of the lower lid and the fat is removed from this route. The incision closes by itself so no stitches needed! Postoperative comments from patients include “no pain,” and “minimal bruising.” While this isn’t guaranteed for everyone, I’m always surprised how quickly patients recover and return to work as soon as they want. Most bruising, if you even have it, can be covered with makeup. Most people that see you will just think you look more refreshed and not as tired as the last time they saw you!
