Microneedling

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a skin rejuvenation procedure that involves creating micro-punctures in the skin with tiny, sterilized needles. These miniscule wounds stimulate your body to increase the production of collagen and elastin, which help keep skin looking younger, firmer, and smoother.

Microneedling FAQs

The Bae Lounge has designed 4 different Microneedling packages, each targeting a specific skin concern. Read more below!

Microneedling is suitable for almost anyone seeking to improve the look and feel of their skin. It can be used on the face, hands, and body to boost collagen production and revitalize the skin. However, the procedure should be avoided in the case of:

  • active acne
  • active infection, herpes outbreak, or warts in the area to be treated
  • immunocompromise from chemotherapy or other medical conditions
  • moderate to severe eczema or psoriasis
  • extreme keloidal tendencies
  • current use of blood thinners
  • tattoos or microblading in the treatment area

After a thorough cleansing, a topical numbing cream is applied to help with any discomfort during the procedure. You’ll get nice and comfortable with soothing music, a blanket, leg massagers, and aromatherapy while the numbing cream works its magic. This typically takes approximately 30 minutes. If you are having Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) with our Ruby Facial, blood will also be drawn at this time. Based on your chosen treatment, our customized serum is applied and the Microneedling pen is deployed systematically across your skin. This process may be repeated 2-3 times, based on your skin’s condition and overall treatment goals. Afterwards, your skin gets an additional dose of the serum, plus a thin layer of hydrate cream to lock in all that moisture!

You’ll leave the office looking red and sunburned, but it subsides quickly. One to two days after your procedure your skin may be reddish-pink and feel flushed, sunburned, tight, dry, and sensitive. You’ll need to avoid sun exposure as well as keep your skin clean and moisturized during this time.

Days three to five bring dry, flaky, peeling skin, due to high cell turnover and rapid growth. Keep your skin hydrated and avoid picking, scratching, or peeling the dry skin.

About a week after treatment, you’ll be back to your regular skin care routine, including plenty of sunscreen. Full collagen production takes three to six months, and during that time you may notice continued improvements to the look and feel of your skin!

YES! However, like any procedure, there are risks involved, such as possible allergic reaction to the creams/serums used, scarring, infection, and pain/redness/bruising of the treatment area.

Thanks to a 3-part numbing cream, most patients consider Microneedling to be painless, with only minor stinging or discomfort during the procedure. The healing process is also relatively painless, requiring little to no downtime.

Sunscreen and a well-rounded skin care routine will keep your results plump, soft, and hydrated. Microneedling results are compounding, meaning you should see better results with each additional treatment. If you’re not currently on a well-rounded skin care routine, ask us! We carry the full line of Obagi products.

Because Microneedling literally creates injuries to the skin, it’s important to allow ample time for healing. We recommend at least 4 weeks between treatments to allow for maximum collagen production. Depending on your skin type and treatment goals, we may recommend monthly sessions for 3-4 months, followed by annual maintenance treatment. A recent study showed that skin treated with four Microneedling sessions one month apart had up to a 400% increase in collagen and elastin production at six months post-treatment1!
