Latisse vs Eyelash Extensions

eyelash extensionsI can’t believe I haven’t compared Latisse and eyelash extensions on this blog yet! It’s such an obvious topic and now that I’ve researched eyelash extensions, such a clear cost savings with Latisse. Here’s why.

Currently, Latisse costs $179 for a 5-mL bottle that lasts 10-weeks. So that’s 2.5 months of product to get your lashes to grow longer, thicker and darker “naturally.” Compare that to eyelash extensions – you have to replace them every 3-4 weeks and it costs about $80 per session. Not only that, your natural lashes break off, getting a little shorter with eyelash extension.

Sure there are risks with Latisse like darkening of the skin around the eyes but 1) that doesn’t happen to everyone and 2) it can be covered with makeup if it does occur. Broken and shortened eyelashes seems to happen to everyone getting eyelash extensions.

From a historical perspective, Latisse used to be called Lumigan which is a medication for glaucoma. For Lumigan to work properly, the solution was placed on the eyeball itself. In a very few number of patients (less than 1%), blue eyes could turn brown permanently. Fast forward to Latisse – it is applied along the lash line, not on the eyeball itself. So while theoretically it’s possible for Latisse to get in the eye and change blue eyes brown, if applied appropriately, this doesn’t happen. In fact, I’ve never heard of a Latisse user’s blue eyes turn brown.

Lastly, let’s talk about convenience. Latisse can be purchased and mailed to you by clicking here, and applied each night in the comfort of your home. Eyelash extensions require a trip to the salon, interrupting your day. So what will it be – $179 every 2.5 months or $240 during the same time period for eyelash extensions?!
