Does CoolSculpting hurt?

cool sculptingThese days everyone wants all the results with none of the surgery, but even that isn’t always enough. They also want their non-surgical treatment to be pain-free! While the technology out there nowadays can help you avoid surgery, freedom from pain isn’t always possible. However, if there’s a treatment out there that delivers on non-surgical results with minimal pain, CoolSculpting is it.

CoolSculpting is the non-surgical option for fat reduction. By freezing stubborn pockets of fat, CoolSculpting can reduce your fat layer by 25%. That’s not as much as liposuction (up to 85% fat reduction) but then you’re getting back into the surgical realm. It all comes down to the risk-benefit ratio. If you want some fat reduction without surgery (benefit) and you’re ok with not being as aggressive as surgical liposuction (risk), then you’ll be pleased with your choice.

But you can’t have everything! Non-surgical fat reduction does require a suction applicator be placed on the area of concern. I’ve had it done so I can speak from experience. The pulling sensation from the suction feels pretty weird. Some patients describe it as pain but it’s totally doable. Your doctor can provide a pain pill if necessary but the discomfort associated with CoolSculpting is very minimal compared to any surgical procedure requiring an incision. Get the viewpoint of this patient in this podcast here.

It’s all about reasonable expectations. Be happy that there are non-surgical alternatives to address your concerns even if they do hurt a bit. Just keep telling yourself that this pain is worth the avoidance of surgical pain and downtime!
