Does a Facelift Leave Scars?

does facelift leave scars?Any time the skin is cut, a scar will form—and since facelifts require incisions, a scar of some sort is unavoidable. With an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon performing the surgery, however, the scars that form as you heal from your facelift should end up being nearly invisible.

I mentioned in an earlier post that my facelift technique involves adjusting the deeper tissues in the face, which creates a more natural-looking result. The other benefit of this method is that when the tissue is moved in this way, the skin moves with it—which means that there is little to no tension on the incision lines. Wide, noticeable scars are caused when the skin is pulled tight and sewn together; in this case, with no tension to tug at the incision areas as they heal, the scars that form should just be very thin lines.

Another benefit to my technique: Not only will the narrow width of your scars make them barely noticeable, their location will make them difficult to detect as well. I make facelift incisions in inconspicuous locations, utilizing the natural folds of the face and ears to mask them.

With the right technique and skill, a plastic surgeon should be able to give you a facelift that, once you’ve healed, is virtually impossible to detect.
