Can CoolSculpting replace liposuction?

If you haven’t heard, CoolSculpting is a non-surgical technique for fat reduction of stubborn pockets of fat around the abdomen, flanks and thighs. While it’s not meant to be a replacement for liposuction, many patients ask if CoolSculpting can indeed provide the same results as liposuction. My standard answer is that CoolSculpting can reduce the fat by 25% and liposuction can reduce fat by close to 90% but with CoolSculpting, you can avoid surgery and post-op garments. In other words, the results may not be the same, but getting any results at all without surgery is still worth it.

After seeing another happy CoolSculpting patient today, I realize that in certain situations, CoolSculpting can achieve similar results as liposuction! Not all the time, but as seen in the photos above and below, I think it’s clear this patient has wonderful results, and all without surgery. In fact, she kept saying, “I can’t believe I had such great results without surgery!” While we can’t guarantee these results with every patient, it’s nice to know it’s possible.

The other point our patient mentioned was the benefit of having CoolSculpting with two machines…DualSculpting. She told me that she thinks most patients don’t understand that each application of the CoolSculpting applicator takes one full hour. Treating the entire body will take several hours and even more if you only have one machine treating each spot sequentially. So by coming to us, she had her full treatment in 3 hours to cover 6 spots instead of 6 hours to treat 6 spots! Can you imagine sitting still for 6 hours when you could do it in half the time? Neither can we!
