Dr. Kaplan Speaking At Ohio Valley Society Of Plastic Surgeons

Dr. Jonathan Kaplan, founder/CEO of BuildMyBod Health will be speaking this weekend at the 61st Annual Ohio Valley Society of Plastic Surgeons – the OVSPS.

According to the OVSPS website, “The mission of the OVSPS is to promote innovative technology regarding the art and science of plastic and reconstructive surgery. The target audience will include physicians, residents and allied healthcare personnel in and around the Ohio Valley region. Our goal will be achieved via didactic lectures, panel discussions and resident presentations.”

Agenda at Ohio Valley Society of Plastic Surgeons

After a red-eye flight from San Francisco, Dr. Kaplan will arrive Friday morning for a presentation soon after. Along with Dr. Sheila Nazarian, another physician within the BuildMyBod Health network, Dr. Kaplan will be speaking on a panel about the Ups and Downs of Social Media in healthcare settings.

As Dr. Kaplan recently wrote in this blog post, social media has an incredible ability to educate consumers. But taken to an inappropriate extreme, irresponsible healthcare providers can ruin a good thing.

If the purpose of social media is to educate the public, that’s great. That should be the intended goal. But if the idea is to make the operating room appear like a circus filled with OR staff dancing and singing with an unconscious patient in the background, well…do I really need to finish this sentence?!

His talk will begin with a primer on the various social medial platforms for all in attendance. As part of the presentation on social media, Dr. Kaplan will also clarify ways to shift social media from a passive to a proactive experience for both the consumer and the doctor.
