Hiding facial cosmetic scars

scarsFor all of the different types of facial cosmetic procedures, it’s really amazing how well the scars can be hidden. It’s all about placement!

If you look at all facial cosmetic operations, the placement of the scars all have one thing in common: subtlety. Clearly no one wants it to be obvious that you’ve had facial enhancement but the surgeon still needs access to give you that lift or tweak you’re searching for. And access means an incision and an incision means a scar.

scarsTo that end, they must make an incision in such a way that the resulting scar is well hidden. For example, a facelift scar is hidden within a natural wrinkle in front of the earlobe, obscured by the sideburns towards the top of the ear and by the ear itself. This incision behind the ear is also the best way to hide the scar associated with a neck lift.

If you are having a rhinoplasty (nose job) that is shaving down the bump on your nose, you may be a candidate for a closed rhinoplasty which means all of the incisions are well-hidden inside the nostrils. If you need some tip work to your nose, an open rhinoplasty may be unavoidable which means you’ll need an incision across the skin that separates the nostrils. But even this more obvious incision is well hidden as seen in the photos to the right.

A blepharoplasty, or eyelid lift, benefits from placing the scars within the natural crease in the upper eyelid. This is one of the hardest scars to see since it’s placed within a crease that is pre-existing.

So as long as you go to a well trained board-certified plastic surgeon, chances are your facial scars from cosmetic surgery will be as inconspicuous as you need them to be.
