Abdominoplasty Cost

As part of our series on cosmetic procedure costs, we discussed breast augmentation cost last week. Today we’ll discuss abdominoplasty cost, also known as a tummy tuck. Typical costs associated with a tummy tuck will be the surgeon’s fee, the OR/anesthesia fees, postop garments (a body garment) and cosmetic insurance. Some surgeons include liposuction to the abdomen as part of the tummy tuck cost but others charge separately for liposuction to the abdomen and flanks. Personally, I include liposuction as part of my tummy tuck technique so liposuction in the abdominal area will not cost extra. Experience of the surgeon may affect the cost but that’s harder to quantify. Here’s a breakdown of these costs for my practice:

Surgeon’s Fee: $7292

OR/Anesthesia Fees: $2880

Garments: $300

Cosmetic Insurance: $300

Total: $10,772

One important point about the pricing above. The OR/anesthesia fee is based on time. So, the longer the procedure, the more expensive. The price above is based on 4 hours. But a tummy tuck almost never takes me 4 hours to perform. The price above is the longest it could take and therefore the most it could potentially cost. By coming in for a consultation, an exam may reveal that your tummy tuck would only take 2 hours so your costs would be a good deal less. I overestimate how long my procedures will take so that, if anything, the actual estimate you receive in the office will be less expensive!

Prices vary across the country as you can see in the 2013 Annual Pricing Report. A tummy tuck tends to be most expensive in the northeast and least expensive in the south, similar to breast augmenation. Hope that helped!
